This Week's Project

Kendrick's birthday is Thursday. We won't be having a huge blow-out. We'll save that for when he is a bit older. For us a one year old party is about the cake, wrapping paper, boxes and tons of pictures of the birthday boy. So, Friday we will have 2 families over for a swim, hamburgers and cake.

I made Cavett's first and second cakes. (I feel terrible about not making his 3rd, due to having a 5 month old). So, I am in the process of making Kendrick's first cake. To get the theme going, I began with invitations, granted, I figured they were pretty pointless, but I wanted one for his baby book. The ones I found were on VistaPrint--FOR FREE!!!! All I had to pay was the shipping and to upload a picture on to it. Anyway, it had a cute elephant. So, I decided to go with the circus/elephant theme. Then I found a picture of this cake. Loved it and decided I had to try it.

I went to the cake store this week and talked to the lady there about putting one of these together and she showed me a few items that would help keep it all together. I used 2 box mixes. (Sorry, I don't do most cakes from scratch) I put them in an 8X8 and a 9X13. After baking for almost an hour, testing every 5 minutes or so, I pulled them out. SUCCESS so far. The cake came out perfect on the bottom. The top three layers I had to cut and they all came out fairly well for the most part. None of it stuck to the pan. I now have it stacked with straws for support, cardboard in between each layer and a dowel rod through the middle of the whole thing. I've also made the cookies that go along the edges. Tonight the icing of the cake!

Wow, that is quite an undertaking! It looks like it will be adorable. I can't wait to see the final pictures. Good luck getting it all done to your liking!

Ok, seriously, the democrat thing didn't even cross my mind. But, Stephen said it did when he read the blog. Oh, well.

Let's make sure everyone knows though, when you refer to "our" that means "your." Love you! Even for our differences! :)
