4 Days Left

I think you know what, by now...

Today was focused on "Outdoor Activity."

After finishing up chores, we headed to Dick's Sporting goods and got some real baseballs and baseball pants for Cavett who was passing his pants and T-balls down to Kendrick.  Kendrick got navy baseball socks for his new baseball team, the Yankees, and I got a golf skirt and shirt.

Then we turned the corner and ended up, where?  But, at our new favorite outing place--Top Golf.  This was Kendrick's first go at it and he seemed to enjoy it.  His score was about the same as Cavett's for each game and his swing was improving each time, even though toward the end when he was getting tired he said, "This is hard.  Mommy, will you help me?"  His favorite part was "hitting the targets."

Our last swim lesson with Conner was also this afternoon and Cavett has mastered the flip turn, the breast stroke and the butterfly.  His freestyle has really improved with more grace now as well.  Kendrick now can do the back stroke and freestyle and is about where Cavett was last year.  There was more pool time once Dad got home from "emergency work."

Then, the big reveal..."Meet the Teacher Night!"

At 5:30 we went up to Cheatham Elementary and found Cavett's classroom, Room 107 with Mrs. Carnley.  Immediately, I felt at ease and knew this was the perfect answer to what we prayed for all summer.  His teacher is going to be great and he has some really great kids in his class as well.

In Cavett's words, the best thing about his new room and teacher, was that he has his own desk!  No more tables and having to be responsible for other people's messes.

Cavett Time

On Wednesday we traded the boys with Grandmama again.  I got Cavett and she took Kendrick.

Cavett and I played with his Zoobs, went to Karate and waited for Dad to get home for our special dinner.  The boy LOVES steak so we took him to a Brazilian Churrascaria--a steak buffet.  I was very proud of him for trying and tasting several different things off of the salad bar.  Then he ate steak until he was stuffed!

Today we took Cavett to Top Golf where we met one of his classmates/church friends, Owen for some ball "whacking."  Owen and his Mom played two games with us and then had to part ways.  We let Cavett decide what he wanted to do next.  Decision--we ate there and played another game.  *twist my arm*  :)

The afternoon was slow and relaxing.  The boys played with the Zoobs some more and watched the Discovery channel while I made pesto.  By dinner time, we just weren't hungry yet, so we skipped it and headed to Karate.  By that time we thought we might need a little something in our tummies--Yougurtville, here we come!

It was a great week for all of us and so nice to have time with each kid.  I hope grandmama agrees as well.

A Week Alone

This week Kendrick got to go to "camp" or "big school."  I signed him up for a Movin' and Groovin' Camp through Allen ISD that is held at an elementary school.  The first day he was reluctant--new place and new friends, but when he saw the name "Zander," he went right in.  Nevermind that this wasn't the same Zander he already knew.  He has had a great time and come home with some fun new noise makers.  I can't seem to get him to "perform" any thing he has learned.

In the meantime, Cavett and I have had some great one on one time.  (He has camp later next month.) We've done lots of chores and errands together with smiles, created a T-Rex out of Zoobs, did experiments with dry ice, read and learned lots of new words and had a fun outing with Dad at Top Golf.  I miss this one-on-one time I used to have all the time.

One day when Kendrick goes to school full time, I'll miss that time too.  Point learned: savor whatever time there is.

P.S.-  Who says you can't go to a driving range in 4" wedges and hit a pretty good ball?

A Dadoo Kinda Afternoon

After naps, we all piled in the car for a "going place" kinda day. We didn't tell Cavett where we were going, we just went. Our first stop was the Rosenberg Railroad Museum. Dad would have had a field day with this place. Who knew there were so many different rail lines going through Fort Bend County! After watching a short video, we toured the gallery and then got to get on a caboose. Way cool! There was also one other passenger car that they are in the midst of restoring, so we weren't able to get on it. While we were at the museum, at least 2 real trains came by. There was also a model "N" train set to look at. This scale is much smaller than Dad's. The set was amazing--so detailed and it modeled different parts of Fort Bend at different times during the last century.

Our next adventure was to the gas station to fill up. Ok, so that wasn't the only reason we were there. Cavett got his first taste of real sugary Dr. Pepper. Dad and Uncle Jonny would have said it's not really the REAL Dr. Pepper as it is made with true sugar cane syrup, instead of corn syrup, but it was as close as we could get.

Next, we headed north to Katy. We ate dinner at a Mexican restaurant where Cavett and I gobbled up the hot sauce and chips. Another Dadoo favorite.

For the ultimate "going place" we ended up inside Katy Mills Mall for Lunar Golf. This is a black light putt-putt golf course. Cavett loved it! I have a feeling this will be the birthday party place for the 4 year old in January. Kendrick enjoyed himself as well, climbing over all the obstacles.

To end the night, we made a stop at Marble Slab sharing ice cream with one another.

It was a good day and one I wish Dadoo could have enjoyed with us.

Golfing in Plain Dealing

Today was Karen, my sister's step-father in-law's (and extremely distant relative to our side of the family) birthday. Did you follow that? Ok, who cares how we are realted, but Al and Sue Wyche had us out to their "compound" in Plain Dealing. Cavett and Stephen went out there early on Saturday morning with Will and later in the afternoon there was a golf scramble. Cavett hung with the "big" boys for about 7 holes, until I got there. He had a blast! Since he played with Will and KK at the Greatwood Golf Course, he has totally been interested in "golf ball". He was so excited to get the invitation to play with the boys.

He was absolutely worn out by 6:00. We had a great meal of fried catfish, hushpuppies and french fries, topped off with blackberry/raspberry cobbler and ice cream. After Cavett's belly was full and we combatted the tears, we headed home. The golf course is only3-5 minutes off the highway leading back to town. By the time we hit it, Cavett was passed out! It was a good time had by all. Thank you so much SuSu and Happy Birthday Al!!!
