Yeah...What She Said!

This is really the only thing our family celebrates about St. Patrick's Day-shamrocks. The kids know that a guy named Patrick tried to spread the Good News by way of the shamrock. Here's the official story.

"One of the stories concerning St. Patrick which is often judged authentic, probably because of its simplicity and basis in human ingenuity, is the tale of the shamrock and the Trinity. The doctrine of Three Gods in One, each separate and distinct, yet each totally God, is claimed by Christians to be a mystery and is accepted on faith. In trying to teach his converts about the Trinity, St. Patrick held up a shamrock explaining that the three leaves represented the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, while the stem was the Godhead itself from which they proceeded. This is said to be the origin of the use of the Shamrock which is customarily worn on St. Patrick's Day."

Of course, green shamrock pancakes are the only way to go this morning! What better way to tell others- by talking about the strange breakfast you ate!

Quiet Time

It's becoming few and far between.  But today's beginning of QT was nice with Dad home for an hour and half for lunch!

Spring Break Start

We've been in Allen for 2 years now and with a hard and fast schedule settling in, much seems mundane.  And, I don't always have the camera with me.  So, there again is my excuse for not blogging.

However, this week is different.  It's Spring Break and we have no schedule.  In fact, the school officials planned it pretty perfectly in the fact that Daylight Savings Time happened this first weekend of Spring Break.  As a result, the kids are still not on the right time and have been sleeping in to at least 8:00 every morning. 

Today, we headed to a favorite spot: the Heard Museum.  I decided to be a member again this year for the sole reason that it has reciprocity with Sci-Port in Shreveport.  It was pretty packed, but a gorgeous mid-day.  A picnic lunch was had and we ended up on the Sycamore Trail. 

To keep things interesting and focused, we had a scavenger hunt.  They were to find: a stone, two sticks, something green, white, red and black.

At the end we sat down and had a talk about what we had found and what they mean to us through God's word.

I love Spring and what it symbolizes through the sacrifice of Jesus!

President's Day

I didn't want this day to go by unnoticed.  I mean, how do people even "celebrate" this day besides federal employees getting off work?  So, when I saw the fun activities in the Family Fun Magazine, I geared up.  The morning was spent for Kendrick and me at BSF training while Cavett put together legos at Dad's office. 

After picking up Cavett, we headed home for a Presidential Lunch.  (And no, I'm not talking about Obama's State Dinner for the Chinese!)  We had Franklin-furters (though far from my favorite President), Lincoln Logs, Adams Apples, George Washington's Cherry Juice, and Plain Old Presidential Pudding for dessert. 

Following lunch we had a science experiment by dropping pennies into salted vinegar.  Most came out bright and shiny.  We specifically used ones with the boys' birth year and created penny pins to wear the rest of the day. 

Art was next and we created Abe Lincoln's face with their handprints.  Stolen idea, but very clever.  Cavett added some facts about Lincoln.

But, the favorite activity by far was the penny toss: large bucket full of water, floating small plastic dish on top. The boys took turns flinging pennies into the floating cup. Kendrick was the first to land a score, but Cavett eventually beat him 11-4.

My prayer is that my boys know what our founding fathers stood for and what they believed in for our nation: life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.  And, that they through God, knew best when setting up our government as a constitutional republic, using 3 branches of government with checks and balances.  In addition, they will have respect for our country and those elected to office and be involved and take initiative when they feel the country is going in the wrong direction. 

Another Great Weekend with the Alexanders

It was a packed weekend as it always is visiting old stomping grounds!  After lunch at Berry Hill on Saturday we headed to the Houston Zoo with the rest of Houston and eventually met back up with Walker and Mark before we headed to Sugar Land to meet Baby Judah Crum.

Walker and Kendrick are becoming best buds despite the almost year difference.

The new African section was pretty cool and a little Disney-esque.

There's just nothing like the safari carousel!

J.P. is just the cutest thing ever!!!

It was a great time with the Alexanders and hope that one day they will join us in North Texas!
