The Weekend

It was a busy one at the Hill house.  Friday, Cavett went to school and Kendrick hung out with us.  He was a great help at Lowes where he pulled our cart around and we tried to not bump into the mob of people that were there.  The afternoon was spent working in the yard without sunscreen:  no bueno.  The good part is that the beds up next to the fountains on the pool are complete.  The bed opposite is missing one plant.  The bed on the far end is finished.  We also bought a few sunflower seed which were not in our design for Cavett to plant with his Deigo gloves and spade since he has been studying such things at school this month.

Saturday afternoon we had a Centenary Crawfish Boil at one of Stephen's fraternity brother's house in Highland/University Park area.  I took our new camera and started snapping away.  I went to look at a pic some time later and realized there was no memory card.  Real bummer.  Afterwards, Renee invited us over to their house for pizza and the kids watched a movie.

Sunday, church, grocery store and mulch for the beds.

It seems with these 4 day weekends we are EXTREMELY productive, but I am typically ready for Monday morning to roll in.

Christmas Yard Art and Cookie Swap

During my annual trip to the Nutcracker Market, I saw a cute little wooden toy soldier for use outside during Christmas. I said, "I can do that!" My friends, Claire and Nichole had seen what we did with the Pumpkin at Halloween and encouraged us to do it again. I suggested that we make it a neighborhood thing and volunteered Stephen to do all the cutting.

We ended up having 2 other families, the Snows and the Buckners make yard art, but we had many more join us for cookies and playing in the street. Four hours later, we began to wind things up. I still have some detail work and the back to go, but for the most part I'm finished. I think they turned out pretty well.

Great job, Stephen! And, we are so blessed to have such fun, neighborly neighbors. If we ever have to leave, it will be a sad day. It will be hard to measure up to these friends.

The Play Yard

This afternoon, long about 4 o'clock we headed to the front yard to play. I promised Cavett that he could play with our neighbor Jeffery and the TV box we just aquired. (Yes, we are stimulating the economy, but when stores are closing and giving away merchandise you just can't help it). Within 20 minutes there were 12 kids in our yard. About an hour later, it was 16! It was great fun watching them and their imaginations with the box. Eventually, a couple of other moms joined us.

However, once Cavett's friend Jackson arrived on his bike, Cavett decided that was all he wanted to do and for the next 45 minutes he rode up and down the street. We mangaged to stay out until it got too dark to see and the mosquitos started swarming.

This is why we live in the 'burbs. Totally worth it.
