Forks and Spoons

Our lives are slowly getting back to normal after being "Iked." Yesterday we said good-bye to our last house guest, even thought they still don't have power; they now have a generator. However, Dad is now gone and is teaching in Las Vegas for the week.

Last night I decided to let loose. It's about time to let Kendrick explore the wonderful world of utensils. I approach this with much fear and trepidation. I hate messes and cleaning them up, but I know it must be done. So, I gave Kendrick yogurt in a bowl with a spoon. I feed him half of the bowl and then I let him have at it for the other half. He didn't do too bad, and I did help him every now and then. We ended up with only one splat on the floor. He loved every slimy moment of it!

Today it was Mac and Cheese on a fork. Although it was easy to prick and get several on the fork, he gave up and used his fingers. It will come, I just need to be patient and accept the fun mess that he makes.

Unbelievable, but Cute

In the span of about 10 minutes during dinner tonight, we had spilled milk, throw up (too much pool water on top of dinner) and massive poop! Really, what can you do but laugh. Unfortunately, it was clean house day, but luckily, most of it stayed on the table or in the diaper.

Now for the cute part, Cavett's soap at his sink was in a different place since the maids came. He moved it over to the right place and on the side I commented to Stephen that there was another OCD tendancy. Stephen's comment was "he'll make a great dentist." Cavett's comment was, "but my hands need to grow so I can fit in the gloves and my head needs to grow so I can wear the mask." Precious.

What a mess!

This afternoon was a challenge as a Mom. It is times like these when you have to realize that you are in control of your own response and stay in control. It all began just after Kendrick was done playing with his Kraft Singles cheese. (That stuff is like glue when it gets mushy.) So, I took him to the sink, stripped him, placed him in the sink and we began the rinsing off ritual. This next part was like slow motion.

Kendrick was wrestling in the sink and he was able to reach my tall, skinny glass jar of liquid dish soap. It hit the island intact and rolled off the other side. It broke in two and dish soap pooled on the floor. I couldn't do anything about it as K was still in the sink. After drying him off and diapering, I placed him in the Entertainer and began the clean-up. After the initial clean-up with an entire roll of dry paper towels, Cavett exclaims he needs to throw-up. (He's running a low fever today of around 100.) So, I run with him to the bathroom. Luckily, he just needed to potty.

I continued cleaning the floor with the second roll of wet paper towels only to find that the rest of the soap that had gone down the drain and was being rinsed down was now bubbling up from the drain on top of the island. To finish it up, Kendrick now had a massive, leaking, green poop diaper. Now I just have the highchair left to clean.

How about you? What's been the worst mess of all to clean up? Now that I have vented, it doesn't seem so bad. But, cleaning up soap is tricky. I guess we already have the Chaney answer!
