Welcome to the World....

...Harrison Charles! He arrived very healthy today at 2:09 p.m. He is the son of my college friend, Marion (whose father and brother, my son Kendrick is named for and she also baptized Cavett).

I am so glad you are here little one and I praise God for you! Your little twin sister is sitting next to your heavenly Father smiling at your new family. You have wonderful, loving parents and family surrounding you. May you grow in the love and knowledge of our Saviour and come to walk with Him for a life time. I can't wait to meet you, Harrison!

Fueling Pet Peeve

It seems that I have uncovered a pet peeve of mine when it comes to the gas station. Now that we have a diesel car, diesel pumps seem few and far between. This afternoon after picking Cavett up from school we desperately needed to fuel up at the local Chevron. Every single pump was busy at that point in the afternoon. It seemed strange for a station with 10 pumps, only 4 of which could pump diesel.

There was one station that had a little white car just sitting there and it was far enough away that I decided to back in and scooch up to the pump. I got out of the car and asked the girl if she was using the pump. She retorted,"I'm using it! Can't you see?" Well, actually, she was sitting in her car looking at her credit card and on the phone. I stood there stunned. Really? Was she serious? So, I said, have you used it already? Again, she said, "Can't you see I'm using it and proceeds to pop out the gas tank cover all the while she is still sitting in her car on her cell phone. She also proceeds to tell me that I am interrupting her phone conversation. Well, exxxcuuuuuse me! The nerve! Was it really that necessary to get all worked up over it?

I scoot on down to the far station and by now one of the diesel pumps is free and I get to it just before a dump truck pulls up. I pump my 14 gallons and am on my way. I pass by the white car on my way out to see that she is still sitting there on the phone, not pumping gas, but taking up a diesel space. Uggh.

Maybe I was just sensitive today, because it was that kind of a day, but I'm sure you have had the same problem at one time or another. Just think about which station you pull into the next time you fill up. Is it a diesel? Could you have pulled into another bay leaving the diesel free for that kind of a vehicle?

Isabela

This afternoon we invited Isabela over for her last visit to Sugar Land. After this weekend she will not be around any kids, due to her surgery on April 14 to repair her mitral valve and the addition of a pacemaker. And, we will have moved to Dallas by the time she is able to get out and about. So, we heated up the hot tub and went "swimming." It didn't last very long for the kids, but they enjoyed just being together--toys were calling their names. Long about 6:00 we ordered pizza for dinner and waited on Sammy's arrival from work. Brenda and Sammy were to have dinner with another couple this evening and with the help of a few tears from Cavett, we convinced them to leave Isabela with us.

I'll tell you, I was a little nervous. What if something were to happen to her on my watch? This little girl has struggled for life and I could never forgive myself if something were to happen. But, it was the best several hours ever. We got out Cavett's train set. He has been dying to play with it, but due to little brother and the disaster he creates, we had put it up until Kendrick was 2. The two had a blast pushing the cars back and forth. We read a few books and then went to bed--the three of us in Cavett's full size bed. Isabela usually falls asleep in Brenda's arms and Cavett knows this. Cavett just couldn't stand not being in my arms too, so I was between them both with my arms around them both. It was precious and sweet. That was at 9:15. I think they both gave up by 9:40 and I followed shortly there after for about an hour and a half.

What a precious child, Isabela and I am so honored that I was able to be the surrogate mom for the night and that she felt so comfortable to fall asleep so quickly in my arms. We will miss her and her family greatly. Please pray for her during the next month or so that she is strong during and after surgery and that the hands of the doctors are guided by God.

Soccer

This morning was Cavett's second soccer game of the season. So far, I haven't really been able to be there and watch a game or practice due to little brother and Dad has been there instead. But this morning, Dad was working. After checking the weather the previous day, I decided to call a babysitter to keep Kendrick while I was with Cavett at the game.

It was picture day and it was cold and windy--very cold and very windy. We got there around 8:15. By 9:00 the picture taking was done and we hung out inside the school until his 9:45 game. Luckily there was a craft show going on so at least we were entertained. He charmed several of the vendors with his made up song about trying to find a booth with hot chocolate. Really, someone would have made a ton of money, but only coffee to be found and he wanted none of that.

He played a good game and made one goal. The only injury--a cleat to the forehead. He shed a few tears and has a bruise, but otherwise he's fine. We enjoyed cuddling up in the blanket for most of the game. The best part was half time snack. He received an apple and ate it! Never before had he ever eaten an apple from the core. He now loves them he said! Yeah--another take along fruit he'll eat!

Literacy Thursday: The Diaries of a......

**Welcome to Literacy Thursdays. This post is designed to highlight some of our favorite books in hopes that you will blog about yours. We are always looking for new books to discover. Literacy is so important and even at the youngest of ages is crucial to development. If you don't have children of your own volunteer at a school, read to a neighborhood child, but get involved. It's a great way to share quality time with the youngest of our society.

We have discovered The Diaries of "Bugs" by Doreen Cronin and Harry Bliss thanks to our Nana. (Cronin also wrote Click, Clack, Moo.) Now, if you go to the library and look up that title, you won't get anything. Substitute "bugs" with Spider, Worm or Fly and you have it made! Nana gave Cavett the Diary of a Fly for his birthday and we have enjoyed discovering the other versions--Spider and Worm, especially this week since they have been focusing on worms at school (check out Cavett's blog).

The books begin as a serious journal entry with a date. It tells of the random events of the creature and what he learns on his way. For instance, the hopscotch area is a definite to aviod as any sort of small creature. For me, one of the entries in the worm book that laid me out was that "no matter how much my sister looked at her face in the mirror, it always looked like her rear end." Now, as much as that gave me a laugh, not all of the entries are that crass and most give factual information about the creature. Each book leads to much questioning on "why would the author have written that", which at this point, for me to turn the why question around to Cavett is fantastic!!! But, on the other hand is a huge higher level thinking question for the reader. For example,.....

The spider book states that Grampa taught us three things in school today the second of which was "without spiders, insects could take over the world." To ask at 4 year old why is this true or why "Grampa Spider" says this, liberates me. Maybe it is because I am constantly being asked why, but either way we all learn from it.

In the end, they learn about how to write daily journals/entries, even if it is one liners, and it is more non-fictional in that they learn pertinent information about creepy-crawly things. My favorite part is that Cavett has been calling them "Diarrhea of a Worm." Quite a different meaning in my book, but I think we have it corrected.

Wordless Wednesday: Trains

Yesterday after SongPlay, we trekked to a different part of town to find an obscure paint store--Kwal. (I had never heard of it, but evidently that is what they painted my new house with and this store only sells it by the gallon!) As we were leaving the store, a train was passing just behind our car. We watched the entire train and let me tell you it was a long one. Both boys just stood and watched. I asked at one point if they were ready to go and no one budged. We saw it to the end and remembered our Dadoo.

This lead to a much deeper discussion about death and heaven than Cavett and I have ever had. It broke my heart to tell him that we will all die one day. The only way I got through it was telling him that one day Jesus is going to come back one day and wipe pain and death out. Truly, I guess that is what gets most every one I know through the day. If only more people realized this....

"God will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever." Revelations 21:4

A Perfect Weekend

This past weekend couldn't have been any better. Stephen had the week off for Spring Break so after we got home from Dallas we enjoyed all of our time together. The weather couldn't have been any better.
Friday Stephen got to enjoy Gymboree with Kendrick while Cavett and I got in some great board game playing. That afternoon, we got a babysitter and hopped on board Stephen's motorcycle for lunch, massages and a trip to the Interior Fabric store to decide on drapes for the new house. That evening was spent in the yard fixing sprinklers and chatting with neighbors.

Saturday morning, Cavett had his first soccer game of the season. I sent Cavett with Stephen and Kendrick and I came a bit later on my bike. Luckily, I got to see at least 10 minutes of the game. At this age, Kendrick just wants to be on the field playing, so I try and distract him with the playground equipment. This morning though, Kendrick watched for a little bit. I guess it was because there were others on the side cheering, not like practice. This is a picture at half time with his little friend Mason, who will be moving into our house at the end of May.

After soccer, Memaw and DD came for a quick visit. It was so good to see them and catch up on all the goings on for both of us.

That evening, we had a neighborhood crawfish boil. Fun times and good neighbors. We are really going to miss these guys!

Ashamedly, Sunday was spent at home, just lounging around. It was beautiful weather and it was Stephen's last day off for a while. We ate outside and enjoyed the hot tub as well. I so can't wait until we move up to Allen, if this is what life could be like when your husband doesn't work 6 days a week.

He Speaks

And now....what you've all been waiting for! The moment is here!
This has been my on going blog about our transition for about a month. Stephen wouldn't let me publish it until everything was more final.

"For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. A time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant and a time to harvest. A time to kill and a time to heal. A time to tear down and a time to build up. A time to cry and a time to laugh. A time to grieve and a time to dance. A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones. A time to embrace and a time to turn away. A time to search and a time to quit searching. A time to keep and a time to throw away. A time to tear and a time to mend. A time to be quiet and a time to speak. A time to love and a time to hate. A time for war and a time for peace." Ecclesiates 3:1-8

(written February 16th)

Since the last week in January with a bit of heaviness on our hearts, Stephen and I have been seeking God's wisdom and guidance fervently. We are making the biggest decision of our lives. Some would say--"It wasn't getting married or having kids?" No way, this pales in comparison. We have always wanted to have kids and getting married was a no-brainer. But to decide where Stephen is to practice dentistry until he retires is a complete different ball game and in a whole new league. This location will decide where we go to church, where our children go to school, how far we must travel to see family, and who are friends are, just to name a few. This is big!

Just after this initial decision to begin looking for our "resting" place, Stephen volunteered to teach our Sunday School class. Since he was struggling with the subject, he decided to selfishly teach the 2 weeks on "Hearing God's Voice." The first week went well and we became focused on the ways to hear God and some of the obstacles that our in our way to hear Him. The second week, he didn't feel as prepared and was unsure of what to say. But, laying in bed early Sunday morning, God gave him an exercise to use with the class. We each drew names of people in the class and had a minute or two of intercessory prayer asking God to speak to us about the person whose name they had drawn. Whoever had Stephen was given the word "patience." Seems appropriate and it was a very powerful prayer time.

Over Valentine's weekend we went to Dallas to look at 5 practices that were for sale. We saw the first 3 and weren't moved. When it came time for #4 in Allen, there was a snafu with getting into the building so we had to meet with the doctor at the library across the street. Just from our conversation I could tell that he was a godly man--a man to be trusted and who believed in Jesus. He even noted that he sees all clergy for free and all other doctors for half price. We felt at ease and eager to see the office. By the end of our conversation, we were still unable to see the office. We decided to go see the 5th office and keep in touch with the Allen doctor if the office became available.

Office #5 was a bust and we couldn't find an excuse to leave fast enough. By this time it was close to 3:00 pm and our tummys were hungry! As we ate, we discussed what we had seen in the physical buildings that day and what were the pros and cons. A major point for me--the floor where the dental chairs are must NOT be carpeted! Eeeeew!!!! After, we decided to head back toward Allen in hopes that the building was clear. Luckily, the building was now free. As we headed toward the front door I saw a type of cornerstone/plaque. It wasn't on the corner of the building, but in the center between the two doors. I really didn't have time to really read it as we went in, but was able to catch the Scripture--Isaiah 28:16. It reads, "The Lord said, "Look! I am placing a foundation stone in Jerusalem. It is firm, a tested and precious cornerstone that is safe to build on. Whoever believes need never run away. "

Now if this isn't a sign from God, I don't know what is unless he flat appeared to me and said, "Jennifer, Stephen--this is it!" I believe He is telling us this is the practice and that no matter what, if we trust in Him, He will not disappoint us and will take care of us. We now have to work out the details and figure out logistics. I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed. I just have to keep remembering to put all my trust in Him. We will be fine.

"Cast all your cares on him because he cares for you." I Peter 5:7

"We are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself." Ephesians 2:20

By the way, this one is free of carpet in the dental chair area! :)

THE SAGA CONTINUES..... (written March 4)

The week after the Valentine's Day meeting I told Stephen that this was pointless to pursue if he can't get out of his contract with his current employer. (Trust me, this was a sticky contract.) He agreed and talked to his boss. When he came home he shared just how kind and understanding his boss was. We were floored. Actually, shocked might be a better description. We didn't even celebrate it was so stunning. This thing was actually going to happen after 10 years. Now, it's still not in writing from the boss. But, I just can't help but believe that God softened his heart.

The 26th of February we drove back up and enjoyed a visit with our college and dental school friends, Trumon and Adrianne. The little boys enjoyed each others company as well, but the visit was too short.

The next morning we headed to Allen to look at houses. We met with two different realtors and looked at several houses, none of which were "the one." Between meetings we stopped off at Custer Road UMC. We took a tour of the Day School there and as we were in the hall a familiar face walked in the door from the playground. It was Melissa, my sister's sister-in-law! I had no idea that she was back in the classroom. It was yet another sign and I plopped down the boys registration.

That evening we left the kids with my future sister-in-law's roommate and we went to visit the other dentist with whom Stephen would be sharing the office space. It was a good meeting and he seems very down-to-earth, trustworthy and reliable--an all around nice guy. There are still tiny details to hammer out, but we are still headed down this path.

After returning home we have been scouring the internet for houses to see for our next trip up during Spring Break. I had really become bummed out because I have realized just how much I LOVE my house here in Sugar Land and how much of a deal we got on it. I haven't been able to find a floor plan that I love. But, last night I think I happened on just the right plan. It was mainly one story with a possibility to build out more on the second floor, but we really don't need that space now. The backyard is big enough for a pool or three. It has just about everything I wanted, but it seemed to be a bit out of our price range.

This morning when Stephen went to call the builder/model home, the price had dropped significantly into our price range! Also, the builder, K. Hovnanian, had gone back into the house and expanded the kitchen! We had our friend, Joe who lives in McKinney go by and look and he had nothing but good things to say about it. Another interesting twist--the plan is called Glenhaven. We are coming from Woodhaven and live right now on Emerald Haven. Ok, it may be a stretch, but put it all together, it just seems to good to be true! Haven is very close to heaven, right?

(wirtten March 10th)

This past week was slow. The dental broker was out of town, my yet-to-be-seen "dream house" was still on the market and we were practicing how clean we could keep the house all week. So, we tried to be as patient as possible and wait on God's timing. There was really no true reason to rush things. It was just that we felt like our momentum was lost. All in all it wasn't.

Friday we made appointments for Monday with two realtors for our Sugar Land house. Stephen again called the builder in Allen to "check" on things and they said they would take it off the market for a small fee of which we could get a partial return if we decided against the house.

Come Monday, we sent the builder a check to take it off the market and decided on our Sugar Land realtor, Kim. I have finished most of MY projects and now we have a few specialized people coming in to finish up. It should be on the market by the end of this week just in time for Spring Break viewing which is perfect for us since we will be in Grand Saline and Dallas for most of next week.

(written March 11th)

This morning was a whirlwind! The housekeeper came to clean and the carpet repair guys were here too. I had a casserole and a salad to make as well as keeping Kendrick entertained. The house was a flurry of busy-ness. Kim's assistant came to take pictures of the spic and span spotless house and there is now a key box on the front door. The sign will be in the yard this afternoon.

Again I am in a state of shock. We have been trying to leave for 3 years now. We have talked about it. Many opportunities have come and gone and we have remained. I am going to miss my house. I am going to miss my neighbors. I am going to my friends. I am going to miss my church. But, God knows there is something better for us somewhere else and I am trusting Him.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your path." Proverbs 3:5

"Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you your heart's desires." Psalms 37:3

I have also been thinking of my new life in Allen and what it holds. Besides raising my children, what does He have in store for me? Where will my path lead? There is a reason I am certain--some purpose that I am to fulfill. I am very excited and interested to see how it evolves, but I pray that I am just what Dr/ Pace's sermon was about on Sunday--being the salt (or the pepper these days) of the earth and letting my light shine. I pray that whatever path I go down I remember that it is not all about me. I will build on what is good. I will be a consistent anchor or sign that others orient their live to and by my words and actions I will point to God.

(written March 12th)

Not even 24 hours after the sign went in the yard we had a showing. They stayed in the house for about and hour and fifteen minutes. Almost immediately after they left Kim called to say that the buyers were already asking for a seller's disclosure and an early move in date! OMG!!! How can this be? We were hoping for sometime in the summer and listed in the spring thinking that this would take so much longer. We can't move until we first close on our house in Allen and it won't be ready until May 1st. What will tomorrow bring?

(written March 17th)

After another wonderful playdate with the Davis' in Flowermound, we spent the 16th and 17th with our friends, Kelli and Joe,who live just north of our new house in McKinney. They hadn't seen the kids in about a year and it was fun to watch them together. Cavett just couldn't get enough of the two.

Update--March 13th we received our first official offer. It was low. Too low and the move in date was wrong. After both parties counter offering, we called it quits. However, it was Friday and I headed off to take Cavett to school. While I was there I saw Tiffany Nuno, one of Cavett's friend's Mom. (Alex, the dad, is also Cavett's soccer coach.) She asked about the offer and showing. We continued on to our MOPS meeting and another neighbor, Nichole began drumming up more business for us.

Later that afternoon, Tiffany called back to ask me more about my house and specifically our neighbors on the street. By 6:00 the Nunos were with our realtor and looking at our house. We had offer #2 by Sunday. The offer was a good one with one caveatt--a contingecy of their house selling. In the meantime, the house was still being shown and we were in Grand Saline for the weekend. We held off an answering their offer because we were told that we would have another offer by Monday. Offer #3 was even better with no contingency.

The Nunos sent us another offer matching offer #3's price, but still with the contingency. What to do???? My heart says go with Offer #2 and pray that their house sells quickly. But these contingencies could stack up making it difficult. Offer #3 logistically is a no-brainer. I guess it is a good problem to have, but I want everyone to be happy also.

(written March 19th)

On Tuesday, Kim made us make a decision about which offer to accept. After some prayer and hearing many say, "Do what is best for your family," we chose offer #3. Not 20 minutes later, Kim called us back and said that the Nuno's took off the contingency. So, we changed our minds.

Yesterday, we signed the contract and met the Nuno's in the front yard to play while the Dads looked at the attic space. Cavett was excited to see Mason and let him know that he was going to live in his house. Everybody is happy. What more can you ask for! Thank you God! What a blessing!!!

(written March 20th)

This evening we decided to go out in the yard and check on the sprinklers. We are having the inspection on Sunday and wanted a clean bill of health. Well, the whole front of the front yard was not coming on. So Stephen started to dig and find the problem. As we were digging, the Nuno's drove up. Ooops. Doesn't really matter though, it will get fixed. But, they had good news! Their house went on the market today and had their first showing and a full price offer!!!! We are all going to have to be flexible on closings, but I know we can work this out! Praise GOD!!!

(written March 23rd)

Today Stephen talked with his boss and he is still willing to let him out. Those details are going to be worked out on Wednesday and I am trusting that God guides his boss and his decisions. We should hear back about our loan for our Allen house this week and Stephen will apply for the dental loan once we hear about the house one. But he said it should be not be an issue.

So, there it is. Quite a story and a big reason why I haven't been blogging the way I had been previously. This saga has taken all our time, energy, effort and thought. Every waking moment had been on some aspect of this ordeal. We truly appreciate everyone who has been praying for us...some of you for years now. It has paid off. We are so blessed by God and his power! He really does have a plan. We thank Him for all of our friends and we will miss you, Houstonians. As for you Dallas-ites (is that what you call yourselves?), we are looking forward to more time with you and making new friends as well.

2nd Annual Core Retreat 2009

This past weekend we took the opportunity to have our Core Retreat in Grand Saline. It was a bit dicey on the the weather, but we needed to do it before Isabela's surgery and our move. Once again it was a good time! We spent time making Congo Bars, chasing cows, playing doctor, watching Walker take his first steps, eating crawfish and steaks, picnicing at Neil Lake, building fires, riding the pug and mudding in Mark's Jeep. If only it would have been a little less cold. I'm going to miss you guys, but there will ALWAYS be Core Retreat every year. Count on it!

Literacy Thursday

Sorry. I took Spring Break off. Check back next week.

Photo Story Friday

I know...you were hoping to find the saga of our job/house/life transition today, but it is on hold just a little longer. We are headed up to Dallas again today and hopefully Stephen will give me the green light then. I am about to burst at the seams to publish! I will talk to people on the phone and forget that they don't know the whole story yet. Ugh......

Anyway, I still have a great story today. Yesterday we had Verdi's hair cut. I decided to go pick him up from the groomer because we were kicked out of our house for our first showing! (Yes, not even 24 hours after the sign was in the ground.) Cavett was very eager and excited to pick him up and was even concerned when we walked in and he didn't see Verdi.

The groomer brought him out and it was like Cavett hadn't gotten a new dog. He wanted to hold the leash. I couldn't touch the leash at all. He loved being pulled and he also loved guiding him. He was concerned with how we were going to get him into the car and where he would ride since we had our little car with us. He was concerned about how cold it was and that Verdi didn't have any hairleft to keep him warm. Cavett tried to cuddle with him the whole way home. Kendrick even got a kick out of it.

After arriving home, we had to wait in the car downthe street for almost 30 minutes while the family finished up looking at our house. It was nearly an hour and 15 minute visit. I guess they liked it???? Time shall tell.

Today's book is random. I found it in the library tonight as I was scouring the shelves for a "moving " book. Again, I was intrigued by the cover--a brown paper cover with 2 circle cut outs for eyes. Baghead by Jarrett J. Krosoczka is the story of a little boy, Josh who had a big idea. A big, brown, bag idea. Josh wears a brown paper bag over his head all day on Wednesday--to eat breakfast, to get on the bus, to give his book report at school, to play soccer. Finally, his little sister asks him why he wore the brown paper bag all day. Answer: sorry, I'm not going to spoil it. Go check it out!

Operation Sell My House: Project # 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7

And so it continues. I haven't had time to breathe it is all going so fast! I promise that within the week you will have a complete story of how all this came to be. It's good, really good, so hang with me.

If you remember, project #1 was painting the half bath, and project #2 was the swag in my bathroom.

The past 2 days I have been scrounging the bargin shelves at places like Hobby Lobby and getting supplies at Lowe's. Here is what has come of it.

Project #3: Like I said earlier, we planted some impatients and coleus in the front flower beds for curb appeal.

Project #4: Art Niche beauty in my bathroom. I painted the back and found 3 pieces of glassware 50% off! I used the shells and sand from our Gulf Shores vacation 2 years ago. I moved a cross from the hall and hung it in the background. Voila!!! Peace and tranquillity for your bathing pleasure.

Project #5: Realtor said we needed art on our art-less walls in the game room. I found 4 posters of antique looking game boards. Stephen made box frames out of 1 X 2's and particle board. I stained the sides and decopaged the posters to the particle board. It didn't come out quite smoothe. I ended up with quite a few bubbles, but it makes it look more antique, right?

Project #6: My closet was a mess. I started last night and sort of finished this afternoon. I pulled out ALL the maternity clothes. Yes, sisters, they are coming back to you! Find room! It's one wardrobe box, a long under the bed plastic container and an enormous suitcase! Whew! Then I arranged and color coordinated a bit.

Project #7: With Cavett's help I rearranged the furniture back to its original position. I had tried the new position for more intimacy, but realtor said this way makes it look bigger, obviously.

On the books for the rest of the week--the air conditioner coil upsatirs is being replaced, the carpet will be stretched in several places, and the landscapers will be out to tide up. Can it all be done and ready to be on the market by Friday? Stay tuned!
